How do we live out our Values through the Yard Sale?
Our UU Shared Values are all evident in the Yard Sale!
LOVE: Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. It helps guide us in every decision we make.
Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion. Our Yard Sale has enough variety to make sure everyone gets what they need for themselves and their families.
Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it. With the Yard Sale, we keep give items new life, we keep them out of the landfill, and help keep our Earth clean and happy.
Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive. Our Yard Sale is open to all, and we have household items that will help anyone thrive in whatever circumstances they are in.
Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope. Donors are generous with their items, and volunteers are generous with their time and resources before, during, and after the Yard Sale. We also try to be generous with our pricing so people can buy what they need.
Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology. Our Yard Sale is not only open to the wonderful diversity of our Valley, but also to items that may resonate with each person differently!
Transformation: We adapt to the changing world. “One person’s cast-offs is another person’s treasure!” That’s transformation! But so are the books that can teach us new things, and the craft items that can become something else, and the toys that can change how kids look at the world around them.
