Trimtabs and triangles – something we can do
Rev. DC’s “Trust, Faith, and Action” sermon on March 2 reminded us that no matter what we’re feeling about this country and the world right now, there is something we can do:
“We can manage some of what we cannot control – or at least we can manage our responses to the things we cannot control.
“The exercise we did in January with the giant geodesic sphere and the paper triangles is one way we remind ourselves that there are big scary things that we can chip away at and make progress. For those who were not here for that exercise, we took triangles of paper and wrote in the center of them some big issue that scares us, that feels beyond our control, that feels just too enormous to begin to address. Then, in each of the three corners of those triangles, we wrote small things that we can do to make bite-sized bits of progress addressing those larger issues.
“The triangles are still here – they are now arranged on the wall so we can see what is on our collective mind.
“I know there are more concerns and issues among us than are represented by the triangles on the wall. That’s why we put up some extra, blank triangles so we can continue to name the scary things and come up with bite-sized things we can do to help address those things.
“I encourage you to engage with this wall display. Write new things onto the blank triangles. Think about the big scary things. Think about what small things we can do to make progress. Write them on the triangles and let others see that they are not alone in their fears, and that they can trust members here to support them in their efforts to make progress in the world.”
If you come to church, please do “engage with this wall display” and in community, we CAN do something!
