Rev. Edward Keido Sanshin Oberholtzer

The Reverend Edward Keido Sanshin Oberholtzer is UUCSV’s Community Affiliate Minister and an ordained Soto Zen priest. He leads the Joseph Priestley Zen Sangha, an affiliate of Empty Moon Zen. He has practiced Zen for the past twenty years with his teacher, James Myoun Ford, a Soto priest and Unitarian Universalist minister. Edward was trained both in the Soto practice of shikantaza, or “just sitting,” as well as the practice of koan introspection and is authorized to lead students in both forms.

Edward moved to Lewisburg in 2014 from Oakland, California. He previously lived in Boston, where he had been the Social Sciences Bibliographer at the Tisch Library of Tufts University. He has been part of the UUCSV community since coming to Central Pennsylvania and has led the Joseph Priestley Zen Sangha here since then.

Edward lives in Lewisburg with his wife Karen and their cat Hobbes, adopted from his son. You can contact him at sanshin@uucsv.org
