Welcome, Rev. DC Fortune!

It’s official! The Rev. DC Fortune will begin his ministry at UUCSV on July 1, 2022. He writes:
Greetings to members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Susquehanna Valley!
I am delighted to accept the invitation to serve as your minister beginning this summer.
I plan to start work in time to be present for the annual yard sale, of which I have heard a great deal. I expect to spend some time learning how things work and getting settled before preaching from the pulpit, which will probably happen in mid-August. There is a lot to learn in a new church and a new part of the country, and I will need a little time to get my bearings.
I am looking forward to working with Sara Kelley as both in-person worship and in-person religious education start back up after the isolating years of the pandemic.
I am originally from New England, where I grew up Irish Catholic, finding Unitarian Universalism in the early 1990s. I graduated from seminary in 2014 and have served a handful of congregations in various roles since then, living in Oakland, California, Saint Louis, Missouri, and most recently in South Jersey, not far from Atlantic City. I am a small-town kid at heart, having grown up in the tiny town of Windsor, Maine, which had fewer than 2,000 people when I graduated high school in 1983. I’ve had a number of jobs and careers through my life, including as a bus driver in Minneapolis, a union sheet-metal worker in Maine, a journalist and newspaper editor in a number of small weekly and daily papers. I’ve worked in bridge construction and as a home repair contractor, and have been active in progressive and queer politics since the 1980s. I am passionate about social justice work, and for fun I enjoy making knives and swords in my home forge (which will be coming with me!). I also enjoy trout fishing in brooks and streams. I live with one very old, small dog, and two large, young cats.
I look forward to meeting everyone when I arrive and beginning our ministry together this summer!
Blessings to you,
Rev. DC
